Affordable Housing
Affordable Housing can be built in existing parts of Sarnia, without adding the costs of new services. However, bylaws would need to change, and other red tape would need to be loosened. Kathleen Ave and Cathcart are already proceeding, but much more is needed So that you know:- AI generates the following on what is holding back building INFILL Housing in Sarnia: Which bylaws in Sarnia discourage infill building? In Sarnia, restrictive regulations in the city's Comprehensive

2.0 - Homelessness, Affordable Housing & Addiction (yes - it is long = sorry)
2.0 - Homelessness, Affordable Housing & Addiction (yes - it is long = sorry)I posted about this subject on August 9th, and it generated a good conversation and questions. This isn't the only important issue for Sarnia during this election cycle, but I need enough information to make informed decisions if necessary. The situation is even more heightened because the county donated land to Indwell, which is now before the Ontario Tribunal for a decision on the Committee of Adju

Mayor's Race versus Council Members
Election news this past week has focused mainly on the mayor's race in Sarnia. Is this important? YES; however, please remember that the Mayor only has one vote. I believe that the focus should be on electing eight ( good critical-thinking councillors. Please Please Please read what each councillor brings to the table. They need to have the experience and forethought to make good decisions for the City. They also need to get along with each other. (We have seen what a council

Business Attraction & Red Tape
Business Attraction & Red Tape Sarnia needs to attract business to our city. Presently, the City pays to be part of the Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership. SLEP looks for opportunities and businesses to invest in Sarnia. The County of Lambton provides 1.5 million dollars annually in core funding to SLEP. Sarnia taxpayers cover a substantial portion of this amount as Sarnia makes up the largest municipal tax base in the county. I believe the first thing we need to do is ask S

Homelessness, Affordable Housing, & Addiction
I have been talking to people to learn more about this situation in Sarnia, since I know these subjects will come up when I am a councilor. Full disclosure is that over the last six years, I have dealt with the homeless and drug situation as Executive Director at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre. A daily occurrence was someone sleeping in the doorways or wandering in to use our facilities. The staff did have to be vigilant; however, we did settle on a method that worked.

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION
ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION I am a confessed proponent of active transportation. My walking and cycling mileage is close to what I drive in a year. I have been advocating for cycling lanes for years. Sarnia has finally started to develop a proper network of bike lanes. Twenty-five or thirty years ago, when I started advocating for bike lanes, I was told there were no cyclists in Sarnia. That is not true today. Bluewater Cycling Organization, through the Grand Fondo, Youth Spokes, C

THOUGHTS ON CITY HALL
I was asked the following question "What do you plan on changing at the City Hall?" A good question for sure! My Answer: There is a lot of room for improvement at City Hall. I would hope that after a new City Council is elected, there would be consensus to sit down with the CAO, as a group of 9, including the Mayor, to discuss any deficiencies, set goals for improvement, and establish timelines to reach those goals. Perhaps even an ongoing monitoring and feedback system woul

THOUGHTS ON VOTING
MY VIEWS ON VOTING I hope you will agree that now is the time to start thinking about who you will be voting for! (wait until after August 21st to see all of the candidates; however, start now) Every Citizen of Sarnia who is eligible to vote should vote; however, putting check marks or X’s on a ballot is not the aim. Citizens should be informed before voting day. Who aligns with your thinking? Who will do a good job for Sarnia as a whole? Do the people you are considering vot
